    Reaching Mountain Rwenzori National Park, takes a journey that begins from Kampala by either using road transport or air transport means. These two means are accessible in Uganda. On arriving at the park headquarters at Nyakalegija where the hiking Rwenzori tour starts from. One can either travel to Fort Portal or Kasese, both of which towns are in Western Uganda.

    Getting to Rwenzori Mountain By Road

    Fort Portal is about 300km from Kampala and can be reached via Mityana – Mubende town, so the total journey time is about 4hrs drive. Reaching Mountain Rwenzori via Kasese is about 350km from Kampala, and this is via Masaka – Mbarara – Bushenyi. Kasese route is rather longer for about 6hrs. However, there is a stop over at the equator line to evidence the experiment of the equator. In addition, there are more exciting views because it goes through the excellent Queen Elizabeth National Park, with an optional pause on your safari, which makes your day longer and more strenuous.

    Scheduled flights can properly be arranged and are available from Entebbe International Airport, so you will land at Kasese airstrip which takes only about an hour and a half. From here, you are able to move a short journey to the park of about 30 minutes. The morning flight is available departing at 0700hrs, arriving at 1005hrs and the afternoon flight departs at 1200 arriving at 1415. The flight is scenic and amazing through changing landscape.

    Rwenzori is the highest mountain range in Africa. Its loftiest peaks, Margherita (5,109m) and Alexandra (5,083m) on Mount Stanley. These are exceeded in altitude elsewhere in Africa by only Kilimanjaro and Mount Kenya, both of which are extinct volcanoes standing in isolation above the surrounding plains.

    On reaching mountain Rwenzori, you will see how unique this is among East Africa’s major peaks. In addition to Mount Stanley, there are four other glacial peaks in Rwenzori, Mount Speke (4,890m), Mount Emin (4,791m), Mount Gessi (4,715m) and Mount Luigi da Savoia (4,527m).
