Rwenzori Mountain nature walks give visitors an opportunity to trek through the central circuit zone, to trails that lead to Lake Mahooma and Turaco chimp forest. The nature walk takes you through the communities of Kichwamba to arrive at the Karangura ridge and the hike to Bundibugo.
The communities of turaco view and Ruboni will also offer a guided forest walk of high lengths outside the park. If you can, you will also follow river Mubuku, in sight of baker and portal peaks as you hike up to over 2,300m above sea level. On a clear day, it’s also possible to view the snow-capped Margherita peak, which is a great spectacular sight. Along the way, on this precursor, are constant appearances of many chameleon species along the trail. The three-horned creature that is so beastly in looks yet so friendly in personality, squirrels, vervet monkeys as well as many bird species.
The Bwamba pass was built en-route to Fort Portal with the remote town of Bundibugyo. The local people here follow the most direct route between these settlements, which is 1,500m high over the steep north Rwenzori ridge. The Abanya Rwenzori community group shall lead you over the mountain through the hidden mountain villages to visit the bamboo forest and also enjoy great rift views.
Besides Rwenzori Mountain nature walks, visitors can also enjoy nature walks through the nearby Semuliki National Park, Bigodi Wetland walk in Kibale Forest National Park or continue southwards for forest walk in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
